Step1

Entering Japan

Narita Airport has terminals 1 and 2. And, there is only one international arrival terminal at Haneda Airport.

Immigration

①Application and receipt of residence card
When you first enter Japan, you can get a “Residence Card” at the airport by submitting your Certificate of Eligibility, Passport, and Visa. You do not have to carry your passport with you during your stay in Japan, but you must always have a residence card. Residence card is not be issued for short-stay students, so please carry your passport.
②Application for Unqualified activity permission
After getting a residence card at the airport, students who want to work part-time can submit a unqualified activity permission application form to the immigration officer to perform unqualified activity (part-time job).
※If you do not apply for permission at the airport, you can apply at the District Immigration Bureau.

First school visit(the day after entry day)

We conduct orientation, placement test (classification test) and check schedule.

Step4

ProceduresCity office (ward office)

①Address change procedure
You must report your address to the city or ward office where you live. The procedure must be done within 14 days of entry.
②National Health Insurance card issuance procedure
Have procedures at the city or ward office where you live. You can receive National Health Insurance card.

What is National Health Insurance?
When you receive medical treatment at a hospital, if you subscribe to the National Health Insurance and present your insurance card, 70% of the medical expenses will be covered by insurance, and the amount you will be responsible for is only 30%. International students staying in Japan for more than three months are required to subscribe to National Health Insurance. This insurance applies only to the subscriber.
※When you move, you need to change your National Health Insurance.
※The National Health Insurance card is a very important identification as well as passport, residence card.

Step5

Opening bank account

When you work part time, extend your visa, receive money from your home country, receive a scholarship, etc., you need a bank account in many situations.

※When you return to your home country completely, be sure to zero the balance of your deposit and cancel your account.
※Never give or lend a residence card, National Health Insurance card, passbook or bank card to another person. Do not give it to others for any reason. If your property is abused by a criminal organization, you will be severely penalized as an accomplice.

Step6

Purchase of mobile phone

You need your phone number when you search for work in Japan. And you will be asked to tell your phone number for many cases such as opening bank accout. So, it is very convenient to have a mobile phone.
